Through the practice of mindful living, I have found that a crucial part of every day is to set an intention for the day. For me, I want to focus entirely on whatever I am doing today. Just today. Not reliving the hardships or setbacks of the past, and not being concerned about the future. Otherwise, I miss what is happening in front of me while my thoughts are racing toward the future or locked in the past.
For example, I would miss Dahlia’s (my delightful dog) adorable tiny moments, or overlook the distinct aroma and flavour of tea. Quite often, my mind is troubled by something that happened years ago, so I miss the easy conversations that may have made me happy.
Although it may sound corny, I am discovering that practicing mindful living is among the most crucial and challenging things to do. It teaches me how to be present. It also teaches me how to observe and how to truly live my life as it unfolds. That is what I want to do every day.
